Richard "Dick" Johnson passed away peacefully at 86 years old. The life of Dick Johnson can be easily described as the true American dream. He was born and raised on a farm in Northwood, IA with his mother, father, and three siblings.
In 1954 he got drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War where he served primarily in Japan. Upon returning home, Dick decided the Iowa winters were too brutal and set his sights on a warmer climate, Texas it is! That is where he met Norma, the love of his life and the two got married.
Richard always had an ear for music; big band, Glenn Miller, Patsy Cline, just to name a few. His passion for music is what led him to a 21 -year career at May-Duncan Music Company, Richard then later sold food at Terguson before retiring in 1996.
Not only was he a loving husband and a one-of-a-kind father to his 2 beautiful daughters, Barbara and Debbie; and in 1992 he gained another title, "Grandpa". There was nothing he would not do for his grand-daughter, Hillary, and they were inseparable from the moment she was born.
Richard and Norma were members of several organizations throughout their life: The Eagles, The American Legion, Midland Lutheran Church & bowling teams. If he wasn't fishing off of the dock on Oak Creek lake you could find him gambling and enjoying scotch in Las Vegas & Laughlin, NV.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence & Mabel Johnson, infant sister Carol Lou Johnson, sister-in-law Jean Johnson, brother-in-law Darrell Julson, and son-in-law Phillip Clark.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Norma Johnson, his beautiful daughters
Barbara Clark & Debbie Robertson, his very special grand-daughter Hillary & her husband Ricky Stephens, his siblings Carolyn JoAnn Julson, Lawrence Johnson Jr, Margie Johnson, Joel & Sandra Empie & many cousins.
The family has decided to have a service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Richard's name to the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 19.
