Raymond was born January 16, 1926 in Potosi, Taylor County Texas to Frank and Zora Winkler.
They moved to Midland in January 1936 to work in South Midland county on the JJ Willis Ranch, working a 320 acre farm.
Growing up in Midland County he worked many odd jobs like Coal Park east of Midland and the Midland Airfield prior to entering the military.
He proudly served in World War II as a T5 Corporal in the Construction Engineers division in both Europe & Japan until the war ended.
After the war he returned to West Texas to work in the oil industry working the Spraberry field. Until his work took him to Lafayette Louisiana.
There he met and married the love of his life Nell Borel where they started a family. They were married in Sep. 1954 and were married almost 50 years.
After returning to Midland in 1964, he was employed for many years by West Texas Vending Company and later by Coke a Cola where he retired.
He was proceeded in death by his wife, parents and several siblings; sisters, Ovie Kennedy and Lonna Wise; brothers, Leonard, Duward "Peanut", Troy and Joe Winkler.
He is survived by his sister, Zella Glover, and brothers, Billy, Adon and Gaylon Winkler.
He is also survived by his daughter Patricia Winkler of Midland, and son Errol Winkler and his wife Mary from Magnolia, Tx.
Raymond was a kind and gentle man that loved all children. Especially his grandchildren Chelse Martinez from Dallas, Zachary Mungia from Austin, Alyssa and Jaden Gutierrez from Houston.
Plus his two great grandchildren, Julian and Emily Martinez from Dallas. He didn't see a baby he didn't love or loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to ask people to honor Raymond by spending their hard earned money on their family or favorite charity.
Nothing was more important to Raymond in this world than family!
The family would also like thank the staff at Brookdale Assisted Living and Manor Park for making his final time here more comfortable.
Visitation will be held at Ellis Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2016. The funeral service will be held at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
