Ray was born March 6, 1947 to C. Raymond Barron and Iris King in Pittsburg, CA. In 1967, he graduated from Midland High School and married the love his life, Evelyn Ruth Schumann. Together, they built a loving home, large family and enjoyed 54 years of marriage.
In the early years, he worked at Connor’s Grocery and roofed houses. Soon, he gained employment at Texas Electric/TXU/ONCOR, where he worked for 42 years. Ray went on to teach lineman school in Odessa. He was very proud of his work through the years and made many lifelong friends along the way.
Ray was a man of faith and served at St Ann's Catholic Church. He was passionate about guns, knives, bird hunting, playing cards, participating in Indian guides and Indian princess and he loved spending time in his swimming pool.
Ray volunteered with the Midland County Sheriff Office for 31 years. He was in the first graduating class of reserve sheriff deputies. He was dedicated to his volunteer work as long as they let him keep his beard!
… But his true love was his wife and the family they created with love and laughter. As he would say, “family is everything.”
He introduced himself to everyone, followed by, “I have 7 children, 15 grandkids, and 11 great grandkids.” He was proud of his Barron clan and we have been blessed by our best dad, also known as Pepaw.
He would say, “you can’t hurt stainless steel” and he is truly, as he touted, “the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be.”
Ray is preceded in death by his loving wife Evelyn Ruth Schumann Barron, “Ruthie”, his parents C. Raymond Barron and Iris King, and his brothers Clarence Homer Barron and Delmer Barron.
He is survived by his 7 children, 15 grandkids, and 11 great grandkids: Sydney Rowland and her husband Rick, their daughters Mallory Lopez and her husband Malachi and their children Oliver and Everett, and Tara Claire and her husband Jason and their children Collins, Jameson and Finley, his daughter Adena Barron and her son HN Joseph Barron, US Navy, his daughter Bonnie Munoz and her husband Paul, her sons T.J. Valdez and his wife Brandy, their children Noah, Malachi and Neriah, Zachary Valdez and his wife Brandy and their son Legend, Nicholas Barron and his fiancé Alena and their daughters Evelyn and Charlotte, his son Mitchell Barron and his children Kaden, Korbin, Kenadi and Khloe, his son Micah Barron and his wife Amanda, their children Gavin, Isabella and Maximillian, his daughter Kalee Van Meter and her children Aiden and Cambree, his son Marcus Barron, and his rowdy little companion Honey. He is also survived by his sister Cheryl Gatlin. He was dearly loved by his family and friends.
The Barron family asks that you wear blue to celebrate the wonderful life of their dad. Blue was his favorite color.
