Peggy Lynn Hoover Palmer passed away on July 25, 2023, surrounded by family. She was always determined to do things her own way, and did so until the end. Anyone who knew Peggy experienced her kindness and will remember her joyous laughter.
Peggy was born July 27, 1937 to Ina Phyllis Lowe Hoover and Hubert Lee Roy “H.L.” Hoover, in Midland, Texas. She grew up on College Street with her four siblings Gail, Roy, Diane, and Carol. She went to Midland High School and was a graduate of the class of 1955.
She began working at a young age and enjoyed spoiling her siblings. She started as a filing clerk and worked her way up to being legal assistant to the Chief Executive Officer of Gulf Oil.
Peggy married the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Palmer, and together they raised two incredible sons, Kevin and Chris. Peggy and Bob started the popular store United Jubilation in Midland, where customers could purchase all things “hippie” in the 1970s. Their other business was Palmer Pipe and Supply, which kept them busy even through recent years. Peggy was especially good with numbers and worked well into her 80s.
Peggy was social and never met a stranger. She loved her regular lunches with her sisters and enjoyed her trips to Hobbs with Bob. She spent a lot of time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren – her face lit up when they were around and her pride in them was obvious for all to see.
Peggy is survived by her husband of 57 years, Bob Palmer; her son Kevin Wilton and daughter-in-law Ann; daughter-in-law Bonny Palmer; grandchildren Sallye Wilton Sheridan and wife Jessica; Dawn Wilkerson; Katie Baccus and husband Ben; great-grandchildren Cameron and Conner Caraveo; Olivia and Henry “Teddy” Sheridan; and Grant Baccus; her brother Roy Hoover and sister-in law Wanda; her sister Carol Roberts and brother-in-law Danny; her sister Diane Bell; as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Peggy was preceded in death by her mother, Ina Phyllis Lowe Hoover; father, H.L. Hoover; her son, Christopher Palmer; sister Gayle Burke.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 5, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., just prior to the funeral services, which will begin at 10:00 a.m. at Ellis Resthaven Funeral Home, 4616 N. Big Springs Street, Midland, TX 79705.
