Pedro Carter Cordova Sr., also known as Pete or Pilo Gallo went home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on July 8, 2016 at the age of 87 following a long illness. He was born on August 1, 1928 in Dexter, New Mexico to Jose Cordova and Delfina Carter. He was raised in Midland, Texas by his beloved Chona and Juan Chavez. He started working at a very young age in the kitchen. After several years he learned to cook and became a Chef. Those who knew Pete will remember him for his kindness and his cooking. He worked for several Midland businesses including Scharbauer Hotel, Ranch House, and Agnes’s where he worked for many years. ln 1973 he started working for Seaboard Pipe and became yard foreman. He worked there many years until it closed, then went to work for Tompkins Flake Inc. until he retired.
Pete married the love of his life, Lydia Evangelee Marmolejo on July 1, 1949. They were married for 51 years and were blessed to celebrate their 50th anniversary before the Lord called Lydia home. Together they had 8 children and an adopted daughter.
Pete was greeted in heaven by his parents, his wife Lydia, daughter Rosie, sister Nicha and brother Jim.
He is survived by his children, Margie Rangel (Robert), Pete Jr, (Anna), Joe (Josephina), Mary Ann Martinez, (Ray+) Arthur (Nancy), Roy (Maria) Berlinda Aguirre (Ruben) and Fred (Blanca), his sister Pauline Sewell, 34 grandchildren, 62 great grandchildren , 21 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Pete accepted our Lord Jesus Christ and was a believer. He will be greatly missed for his love, knowledge and advice. He enjoyed going to church and attended the Nazarene Church in Odessa, Monte Sinai Baptist Church and Primera Baptist Church most of his life.
Pete enjoyed playing the guitar, attending Rockhounds baseball games, watching the Walker series, his birds and going to the Baptist Camp in Menard, Texas catering for over 20 years and cooking at the deer leases. At home he was always working around the house, tending to his yard and garden. He always kept busy and always had a project he was working on. We will greatly miss him at our family gatherings and parties, but most of all for the advice and helping hand he always had to offer. He was always the person everyone called when they needed something, as he would always help us all out and loan out whatever was needed.
Funeral services for Pete are under the care of Ellis Funeral Home in Midland, Texas. Viewing will be on Sunday, July 10th from 1 to 8 pm with a celebration of his life beginning at 5 pm. On Monday the 11th a service at Primera Iglesia Bautista, 507 N. Tyler will began at 10 am and interment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren: Taurino Vasquez Jr., Peter Cordova, Joe Cordova Jr., Louie Moriel, Roy Cordova Jr., Ruben Aguirre, Arthur Cordova and great grandson Michael Flores.
