Noah Fishman, 65, of Midland, Texas, passed away on November 4, 2015. Noah was born in Brooklyn, New York, on December 26th, 1949, to Martin and Rose Fishman. He graduated from Tilden High School and continued on to receive a degree from Queens College and City College Graduate School, and attended Hebrew University in Jerusalem and the doctoral program at the University of Texas. Noah was married to Lyn Fishman on July 16th, 1989; they were married 26 years.
During his college years, Noah traveled extensively and had varying, fascinating jobs, including as a mail courier in Jerusalem, an eyeglass grinder in Scotland and an ambulance taxi driver in New York City. He then spent his years as a geologist, first for the Zambian government and then in Midland, Texas, initially for GeoMap as junior partner until he departed to work independently. He was an avid reader of all genres, loved history and literature, and was always quick to share a laugh. His great passion was volunteering to teach Hebrew and bar and bat mitzvah students. He was also actively involved in the American Red Cross, serving on the local board, was a former president of the Midland County Library, was active in the West Texas Geological Society, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, Mensa, B’nai Brith, the Jewish Philanthropic Union and served as president of Temple Beth El for six years.
Noah is preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Rose Fishman and his uncle Michael Fishman.
Noah is survived by his wife Lyn Fishman; his children Maya, Daniel, Seth and his wife Marget; his sister Marsha and her husband Avi Goldstein; his grandchildren Jonas and Lucas Witkowski and Weston Fishman; his cousin Elliot Wirshbo; and by his nephews David and Rafi Goldstein and their families, along with other family and friends.
The funeral service was held at 2:30 pm on Thursday, November 5th at Ellis Funeral Home with Rabbi Sidney Zimelman officiating. Burial followed at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
