Melinda Lee Cooper-Day passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2024. She was born on May 19, 1958 in Midland, TX to Nelda (Davis) Cooper and John Cooper. She married her one true love, Greg Day, in Midland on July 12, 1980. Throughout their 44 years of marriage, they lived in Midland, TX, Cody, WY, Edmond, OK and New Braunfels, TX and they were blessed with three sons and two grandsons whom she loved fiercely.
Melinda was a feisty red head through and through. She would tell it like it is and at the same time literally do anything for those she loved. Charles Spurgeon wrote that “A good character is the best tombstone. Those who loved you and were helped by you will remember you when forget-me-nots have withered. Carve your name on hearts, not on marble.” Melinda embodied that philosophy, and her memory and love will always be carved into the hearts of countless people. Friends, family and acquaintances of Melinda always knew that she was a “true" person with her empathy, honesty and loyalty showing through like a bright light. She had an infectious laugh and if you were lucky enough to hear her tell a story that tickled her, you'd know that she would typically only make it about a quarter of the way through before she would start laughing so hard she was crying and couldn't get another word out. As someone said recently, she laughed easily and loved well. She had many roles throughout her life personally and professionally including horse trainer, clinic manager, hummingbird whisperer and many others but none were more important to her than being a wife, Mom, Gammie and friend. She is missed beyond measure and will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
Melinda was preceded in death by her parents and one son, John Cooper Day. She leaves behind her husband, Greg, son, Phil Day of Austin, TX, son, Geoff Day, daughter-in-law, Chanel Day and grandsons Graydon and Gavin Day of Casper, WY, sister, Cindy King and husband Wyn of Tinnie, NM and her sweet doggy sidekick, Bella along with many other loving family members and friends.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, October 11, 2024 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Ellis Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at Ellis Funeral Home on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 10:00 AM followed by a graveside committal at Resthaven Memorial Park.
