Mary Carolyn Howe Jones, beloved mother, grandmother (mimi), great-grandmother, and friend entered into rest with our Lord, Jesus on September 6, 2010 at the age of 87. Carolyn was born on March 18,1923 in Atlanta, Texas to Robert and Marie Howe. She grew up in Atlanta and later attended college at Baylor University where she graduated in 1945. While at Baylor she was recognized for her service, beauty and leadership through several honors, one of them being Baylor’s representative at the Southwest Conference Roundup. After college she moved to San Angelo, TX where she met her husband of 53 years, H.C. “Nub” Jones. They moved to Midland in 1946. Nub opened the S & Q Clothiers. They proceeded to raise their family of three children and make friends of a lifetime. She loved the spirit of Midlanders and was proud to be a part of such a wonderful community. She touched the lives of many with her kind spirit, sharp intelligence and joyful heart. Carolyn was a founding member of Midland Women’s Club and Progressive Study Club. She devoted time to volunteering at the First Baptist Church, Meals on Wheels and as a hospital volunteer. She thoroughly enjoyed playing bridge, supporting the symphony and theatre, and was a voracious reader. A special recognition to her son, Clinton, for his sacrificial love in caring for his mother over the years and for demonstrating one of her final directives: “everyone should love in Christ, because in the end that is all that matters.” Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Nub Jones. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and James Ryan of Houston, TX; her son, Clinton Jones of Midland; her second daughter and son-in-law, Bob and Jana Marshall of Huntsville, AL; her brother and sister-in-law, Pete and Violet Howe of San Antonio, TX; Seven grandchildren and their spouses, Tracey and Sam Perry of Phoenix, AZ; Carrie and Trey Miller of Houston Texas; Sofia and Walker Ryan of Houston, TX; Harrison Funk of OK; and Baylea and Mike Guezada of Norman, OK; Samuel Marshall of Huntsville, AL; and Carolyn Marshall of Huntsville, AL. In addition, she has been blessed with 10 great grand-children. Ryan, Wes, and Wade Perry; Jake and Lauren Miller; Nico, Bella, and Lucia Ryan; Rylin and Harper Guezada. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 10, 2010 at Resthaven Memorial Park. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Midland with David Johnson officiating. The family will be receiving guests at a reception following the service.
