Mary Alice Cain Christensen, 87, of Oak Ridge Estates, left us on May 29, 2011, for her eternal resting place with our Lord. Though she is no longer with us physically, she will forever be in our hearts and memories. She was born in Fluvanna, Texas, but spent most of her life in Big Spring, Texas. There she met and later married Joseph Lesley Christensen on September 28, 1946. Mary loved children and spent many years teaching in the Texas public school systems of Big Spring and Canuta. The last three years have been spent living and enjoying the people in Oak Ridge Estates. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew J. Cain and Alice Haynes Cain; and her husband, Joseph Lesley Christensen. She is survived by her daughter, Lynn McDowell and husband, Jerry; grandchildren, Jerin McDowell and wife, Kristin, and Jalyn McDowell; great granddaughter, Jordan McDowell, all of Grand Prairie, Texas; brother, A.J. Cain of Midland, Texas; sisters, Billie Carr of Big Spring, Texas, and Betty Lively of Odessa, Texas; and an aunt, Nadine Hodnett of Big Spring, Texas. One of her greatest joys was the time she spent with family, especially her great granddaughter. She also loved playing games, painting, genealogy, and spending time with friends. We wish to give a special thanks to the compassionate staff at Seton Highland Lakes Hospital of Burnet and Round Rock, Texas, and the Seton Highland Lakes Hospice. We also greatly appreciate all the wonderful, helpful friends in Oak Ridge. A memorial service will be held in Midland, Texas, and her final resting place will be at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring, Texas. In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation in remembrance be given to her favorite charity, the Rescue Mission of El Paso (1949 W. Paisano, El Paso, Texas 79922) or to a charity of your choice. Condolences may be offered at www.clementswilcoxfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home of Marble Falls, Texas.
