Marian A. Chappell

Marian was born on November 20, 1928 in Ganado, Texas to Frank A. and Alvina Skrla Jaap. She grew up and attended school in Ganado, Texas. After graduation, she attended Sam Houston State University and there she met the love of her life, Joel Chappell. They were married and both graduated from Sam Houston State University on May 28, 1950 and that same day the newlyweds moved to Midland, Texas to begin their life together.

Marian was a devoted homemaker and supported Joel as he worked for numerous oil companies as a draftsman during their lifetime. The family lived in Midland, Abilene and Amarillo and then returned to Midland where they resided for the last 50 years. Marian was by Joel's side when he retired in 1986 after many years in Midland until Joel's passing in 2011. For many years, Marian taught a ladies Sunday School class at Alamo Heights Baptist Church, and also serviced as a church librarian, and was also active in other areas of the church. Marian was also a "Pink Lady" at Midland Memorial Hospital for several years.

She was preceded in death by her husband and infant son, James Dale, her parents and four brothers - Frank, Bill, Fred and John Jaap, also beloved son-in-law, John Conley, and her grandson and great grandson, John and Gavyn Cooper.

She is survived by her son and wife, Gary and Nancy Chappell of Midland, Texas; a daughter, Deborah Conley of Brookhaven, MS ; and her youngest daughter & her husband, Donna and Mike Metcalfe of Midland, Texas. Several sister-in-law, Bernice Jaap of Schertz, Texas, Rebecca Jaap of Dickinson, Texas and Nadine Jaap of Beckley, WV and Shirlyn Chappell of Tyler, Texas and numerous nieces & nephews whom she loved.

Her grandchildren are: Joel M. Chappell and his children - Scott & Katie of Lewisville, Texas; Jeremy Chappell and wife, Christy and their children - Matthew, Timothy & Casey of Midland, Texas; Theresa (Chappell) Cyphers and husband Paul and their children - Adam & Thomas of Midland, TX; Philip Conley & wife Angela and their children - John , Elisabeth, Chloe & Asa of Cochran, GA; James Conley & wife Jenny and their children - Levi, Jamie & Cody of Brookhaven, MS; Sarah Conley of Fort Smith, Arkansas; Christina Montague and husband, Jonathan and their children - Cate & Jayne of Prosper, Texas; Curtis Metcalfe and wife Tiffany and their children - Lexie, Brooke & Dean of Lakeside, Texas; Marsye Metcalfe Steele ad husband Michael of Bedford, TX, Robert Metcalfe of Plano, Texas; Monty & Megan Morgan and children Madeline and Mary Katherine Bentonville, AR and Chassity Cooper and her daughter, Callie, of Midland, Texas.
