Marguerite Evelyn Stoltz, 87, of Midland passed away on Friday, March 6, 2015. She was born on November 28, 1927 to Ralph E. Johnson and Beulah M. Johnson in Shidler, Oklahoma. The family later moved to Pampa, Texas for a time before settling in Hobbs, New Mexico, where she attended school, St. Helena’s Catholic Church, played clarinet in the band, and graduated from Hobbs High School in 1946.
In 1947, after attending Texas Tech for one year, she married the love of her life, Jacque Rae Stoltz on July 18, 1947 at St. Helena’s Catholic Church in Hobbs. She then left school to work full time at Baker Fleming in Lubbock while Jacque finished his electrical engineering degree at Texas Tech University. Upon Jacque’s graduation in 1949, they moved back to Hobbs where Jacque went to work for New Mexico Electric Company. During the early years of their marriage, Marguerite worked for a time at a bank in Hobbs before starting a family. She then began devoting her life to her children and their activities serving as a room mother and Cub Scout den leader, while at the same time playing golf and staying involved with the many activities at St. Helena’s. In 1963 Jacque took a job with Mobil Oil Corporation so the family moved to Lubbock for two years and then finally moved to Midland in 1965. While in Midland, in addition to being heavily involved in her children’s’ activities, she was actively involved in the Altar Society at St. Ann’s Church, serving as president, chairperson of the annual spaghetti luncheon, editor of the yearbook and chairman of the bridge marathon. She even found time to start playing golf again and became an active member of Ranchland Hills Women’s Golf Association.
In 1979, Mobil transferred Jacque to Houston, where Marguerite set up a new home in Kingwood, Texas. There she and Jacque, the children now raised, became active members of St. Martha’s Catholic Church and Kingwood Country Club. During their almost twenty years in Kingwood, Marguerite and Jacque made numerous friends, and after Jacque’s retirement in 1986, traveled with those friends on land and by sea to Alaska, the Bahamas, Canada, the Panama Canal, Italy and any place with a great golf course. During all these years, Marguerite also grew to love and work on her many counted cross stitch projects. In 1998, Jacque and Marguerite returned to Midland, where they eventually settled in Manor Park.
Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by Jacque, her loving husband of sixty-seven years; her three children, who loved her so much, and will miss her very much; Mike Stoltz and wife Barbara of Midland, Mark Stoltz and wife Patty of Garden Ridge, Teresa Miller and husband Kevin of Midland; six grandchildren, Christopher Stoltz and wife Erica of Fort Worth, Stephen Stoltz and wife Jessica of Midland, Michael Stoltz and wife Lauren of Midland, Mark D.
