Margaret (Peggy) Slevin of Midland TX passed away peacefully with her daughter Linda Hill and granddaughter Kristin Danley by her side on Saturday, August 12, 2023. She was 91. Peggy was born on December 8, 1931, in Philadelphia PA to Margaret and Martin Kersse. She became a Registered Nurse, graduating from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing class of 1953. She married John (Jack) Slevin on September 7, 1957, and served proudly alongside him as a United States Air Force wife for 22 years and 6 months. In addition to being a military wife, she worked as a nurse in Philadelphia PA, Brownsville NJ, Oscoda MI, Abilene TX, and Austin TX, serving for 37 years and retiring in 1990.
She was actively involved in the Catholic Church, a member of the Little Flock Franciscan Fraternity of the Five Franciscan Martyrs Region. She and Jack traveled extensively throughout the United States, Mexico, and Canada. When not traveling with their RV, they loved seeing the world by cruise ships. Much of their travels included visiting their children and grandchildren. She was an avid knitter and for years she knitted newborn hats for her daughter, Linda, to give out to her patients. She loved playing bridge and kept this up until she was 90. She resided in Midland, TX the last 6 years of her life enjoying spending time with her Texas family along with visits from those who lived farther away.
Peggy is preceded in death by her parents Margaret and Martin, her husband Jack, her brother Marty, and her son, Jay.
She is survived by her daughters Kathy (Keith) Clore of Percy IL and Linda (Rick) Hill of Midland TX, four grandchildren Erin (Jordan) Barrett, Marlena (Joshua) Dickinson, Kristin (Shane) Danley, Daniel (Jenifer) Rondeau and eight great-grandchildren Illiaina Dickinson, Brooklyn Barrett, Joshua Rondeau, Emma Danley, Addison Barrett, Julia Danley, Olivia Rondeau, and Sylvia Rondeau.
The family would like to thank The Village of Manor Park of Midland TX and Home Hospice of Midland TX for the care and compassion they showed Peggy in her final days.
Family and friends will be invited to a memorial celebration held at St. Joseph’s Parish Catholic Church on November 21, 2023, at 10:00 AM, 12688 Santa Piedro St. Lillian AL 36549.
Interment to follow at Barrancas National Cemetery at NAS Pensacola, FL alongside her husband of 57 years.
