Laverne McBeath Mills passed away on Friday, November 30, 2018 in Midland after a brief illness. A visitation with the family will be Friday evening, December 7 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Ellis Funeral Home. A Funeral service will be Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 2:00 pm in the Ellis Funeral Home chapel followed by burial at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland.
Laverne was born August 3, 1921 in Haskell County, Texas to Blaine and Emma McDonald. She married H.M. McBeath on April 9, 1949 in Abilene. They were married until he passed away on November 21, 1987. Together they had a career of owning and operating radio stations in Marlin, Breckenridge, and finally Midland. They acquired KJBC radio in the summer of 1964 and operated it until it was sold in 1992. Following the death of H.M., Laverne married Thomas Claud Mills on October 6, 1991 until his death on November 28, 2003.
Besides H.M. and Claud, she is predeceased by her parents and three older brothers.
Surviving her are her two sons, Don McBeath and wife Beverly of Lubbock, Mark McBeath and wife Marcia of Riverton, Wyoming, step daughter Claudia Lewis and husband Floyd of Midland, as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Laverne was a member of First Baptist Church in Midland for more than 53 years. She was also a life member of VFW auxiliary post #4149.
