Louise Morrow Lang passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on March 23, 1925 in Sherman, Texas to Costa D. Morrow and Gladys Millar Morrow. Louise was the middle child of three children who grew up in Sherman. She was educated in Sherman public schools and graduated from Sherman High School in 1942. She attended Austin College in Sherman where she met her future husband, Garland H. Lang, Jr. She graduated from Texas State College for Women (now Texas Women’s University) in 1945. She married Dr.(Lt.) Garland H. Lang of Kerrville, Texas on June 8, 1945 at Central Presbyterian Church in Sherman. They moved to Charleston, South Carolina where Garland had his medical internship and Louise taught school. They moved to Houston while he continued his residency and then to Big Spring, Texas for one year before settling in Midland in 1952. In 1972, they moved to Hunt, Texas to enjoy their family place, Lang Lodge, on the Guadalupe River for 4 years before returning to Midland in 1976.
Louise lovingly dedicated herself to her family, church, and community. She was a wonderful homemaker who used her gift of hospitality to serve others. She and Garland were charter members of Westminster Presbyterian Church (later Trinity) in 1953 where she served as a Deacon, president of Women of the Church, and taught children’s Sunday school for 20 years. She served in many leadership positions of the Presbyterian Women and Church Women United including president. In 1976, she and Garland become active members of First Presbyterian where she was an Elder and president of Women of the Church. Some of her community activities were serving as President of the Midland County Medical Society, member of Midland Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Junior League of Midland, the Rake and Spade Garden Club, and Colonel Theunis Dey Chapter of the DAR . She supported her children in their many activities and schools. Her family is blessed by her Christian faith, devotion, and her legacy of love.
Louise is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Garland H. Lang, Jr., great granddaughter, Abigail Leak, and brother-in-law, Bill Stephens. She is survived by her sister, Mary Alice Stephens of Wichita, Kansas, her brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Philip Morrow(Elizabeth) of Dallas, Texas and her four children and their families; Margaret Lang Williams(Tom) of Dallas, Texas, Jennie Lang House(Lee) of Midland, Texas, Garland H. Lang, III (Karen) of Midland, Texas, Gregory Morrow Lang, of Murray, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Russell Williams(Felicity) of San Antonio, Texas, Stuart Williams(Leah) of Dallas, Texas, Caroline Williams of Dallas, Texas, Brian House of Midland, Texas, Caitlin Leak(Zane) of Midland, Texas, Kimberly and Elizabeth Sanberg of Golden Valley, Minnesota, Garrett Lang of Midland, Texas and great grandsons, William Sanberg and Jaxon Leak and many nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be on Friday, June 6, 2014 at 2:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church, 800 W. Texas, Midland with family visitation at Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Highway, on Thursday, June 5, 5:00 PM- 7:00PM.
