

Leon’s life was one of service to his God, family, and community. He loved this nation and loyally served it as a Commander in the United States Navy. His professional life was spent at Oklahoma Baptist University, Midland College, and the Texas A&M University system coaching tennis and teaching young people.
Survivors include his wife, of 53 years, Joyce and their three daughters, Elizabeth Schell of Midland, TX, Rebekah Cunningham and husband Stevan of Oklahoma City, OK, Rachel Koontz and husband Kevin of Peachtree City, GA; grandchildren, Jessica Beisel of Lubbock, TX, Kasey & Kaden Yankowsky of Oklahoma City, OK, Eden, Mia, Ava, and Quin Koontz of Peachtree City, GA, Stevan Cunningham and wife Andrea of London, England, and Tyler and Ashley Cunningham of Oklahoma City, OK.
A memorial service will be held in his honor at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at the First Baptist Chapel in Midland, TX. Burial will be held at the VA Cemetery in Dallas, TX.
Leon was a blessing; his generous, friendly, and kind life will remain in the memory and hearts of those privileged to have known him.
