Larry was born and raised in Carlsbad, NM on August 30, 1936 to Carlton and Jewel Ives.
He married Charline Wagner in July, 1956 in Carlsbad and shared 62 wonderful years together until her death in May of 2018. Together they raised 3 children over the years in various places of West Texas and SE New Mexico.
Larry was a very dedicated employee with Texaco for 37 years. He started out surveying, later worked as a gas plant operator and eventually became gas plant superintendent. He loved his job and never used a sick day of work. He retired in 1994 and moved to Midland in 1996.
Larry was an avid fisherman and took his family fishing in the lakes and rivers of Colorado. He even made a second home for his family to enjoy Lake Amistad in Del Rio. Larry was full of adventure, as he flew planes, rode a motorcycle across country at a very early age, visited the pyramids of Egypt, the Great Wall of China, toured Ireland and loved the craps table and roulette wheel in Vegas.
Larry was proud of his 3 children, but especially proud of his seven grandkids. They were extremely proud of him, too. He had taught many of them to drive; both a boat, and a car. He took them fishing, Dove hunting, and spent time embellishing stories with them. They remember him as both sarcastic and funny and how he never called anything by its right name. One special way he honored them all was by switching to the college cap of the visiting grandchild.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, sister, brother, wife and son Donald Ray.
He is survived by daughter in law, Paula Ives of Andrews and her children, Callie, John, and Sarah and fiancé, Trevor; daughter, Kim Evans and husband Scott of Balmorhea and their children, Kristen and Ben, Justin and Lori, Chad and Kacey, Jenna and Garrett, and Tyler and fiancé, Mackynzie; son Michael Ives and wife Cheryl of Midland and their children, Hannah and Emery and his brother, Jerry Ives and wife Linda of Midland.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, November 1 at 1:00 p.m.
at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland.
