March 19, 1933 -April 7, 2025
Kathleen Meadows Cathey, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2025, in Midland, Texas, at the age of 92. The family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care from the dedicated staff at Ashton Medical Lodge and Hospice of Midland, especially in her final days.
Born in Union Star, Missouri, on March 19, 1933, Kathleen was the youngest of six siblings born to Emmett Meadows and Sophia Delilah Gregory. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Francis, Emmett Lee, Helen, Clema, and Randolph.
Kathleen spent much of her childhood in Pomona, California, and she also had many pleasant memories of the San Francisco Area. In 1953, she moved from California to Texas. Later, she spent nearly 25 years living in Albuquerque, New Mexico, before returning to Midland in 2010.
Kathleen was a loving and proud mother to her three children: Dan Cathey and his wife Nadine; Mary Ann Cathey; and Lesli Prewit and her husband Steve. She was the cherished grandmother of Lauren, Dylan, and Dalton, and held each of them close in her heart.
Kathleen was quiet, but she carried a spark and an adventurous heart that revealed itself in the stories she told and the way she could weave joy into life's everyday moments. She had a warm spirit and stylish soul - especially when dressed in her favorite shades of blue, which echoed her love of the ocean.
She enjoyed relaxed days in the warm sun, watching birds in the backyard with a cup of coffee. Her smile was often lit by a knowing twinkle in her eye. She was a caring and hardworking homemaker who took great pride in her family, always wanting the very best for those who were precious to her. Her love of Sunday football, admiration for Audrey Hepburn, her creativity, and her talent for baking are just a few of the ways she will be remembered with fondness and smiles.
Kathleen was a woman of quiet strength, resilience and kindness. She found comfort and community in her participation in Al-Anon, was a devoted reader of daily meditations and The Daily Word, and leaned on prayer as a steady source of peace and guidance throughout her life. Above all, Kathleen was happiest when surrounded by family. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered for her strength, grace and loving spirit.
A celebration of Kathleen's life will be held at Resthaven Memorial Park, Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers Kathleen's memory may be honored by donating to Hospice of Midland.
