Kenneth Leroy Reeves, 86, of Midland, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. Leroy was born north of Midland on May 24, 1938, to A.C. and Myrtle Tucker Reeves. He grew up in Midland and graduated from Midland High School in 1956. Leroy married Beni Brown and together they raised three children: Cherylyn, Bryan, and Tracy.
Leroy started working in the oil and gas industry in 1956 as a draftsman and scout eventually learning the land trade. He worked for several companies including Ralph Lowe, Forrest Oil, Texas Pacific, and Pioneer and became an Independent Landman in 1976. Leroy was a member of the Permian Basin Landman’s Association and earned his Certified Professional Landman Certificate in September of 1980. He was also a member of the AAPL and NMPL. Upon his retirement, Leroy and his wife, Mary moved to the Texas Hill Country outside of Burnet, Texas and enjoyed many happy years before moving back to Midland to be near family.
Leroy had a great amateur Golden Gloves boxing career throughout school and his early adult years and then enjoyed managing boxers at the Optimist Boys Club for several years. He was involved with the YMCA Indian Guides and Indian Princesses with Bryan and Tracy. He enjoyed hiking and camping. He made countless trips to Guadalupe Peak, McKittrick Canyon, Colorado Bend and several other state and national parks. Leroy also enjoyed running and was proud to complete the White Rock Marathon in Dallas. Leroy was a member of Golf Course Road Church of Christ.
Leroy was predeceased by his parents as well as his siblings: Alfred, Sybil, Charles, Billie Dale, Joan, and Beverly.
Leroy is survived by his wife Mary E. Reeves; His children: Cherylyn Reeves Murray (Tommy Daughtry); K. Bryan Reeves (Mary); and Tracy Reeves Ellis (Ed). His grandchildren: Ginger Murray, Charissa Reeves, K. Weston Reeves (Breanne), Gertie Wilson (Bill), Beth Roberts (Cody), Mattie Utley (Ben), Travis Reeves (Kimberly), Megan Ellis (Becca), and Allison Smith (Chad) and sixteen great grandchildren. His stepdaughter Kimberly Hendrix Barnett (John) and two step grandchildren: Courtney Harvey and Wade Harvey (Danielle) and six step great grandchildren. Leroy is also survived by his siblings: Betty Oneil Bagwell; Nancy Reeves Young (Wayne); and Bobby Reeves (Shirley) and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Tonya Whitaker, Kayla Thrasher, Linda Ruiz and Hospice of Midland for their compassionate care and support for Leroy. Your kindness, patience and love will be forever appreciated by all of us.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday, April 6, 2025 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Ellis Funeral Home, 4616 N. Big Spring St. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 7, 2025 at GCR Church of Christ, 3500 W. Andrews Hwy, followed by a graveside committal at Resthaven Memorial Park, 4616 N. Big Spring St.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Boys and Girls Club or Hospice of Midland in Leroy’s honor.
