Jud was born in Midland on November 8, 1944 to May Beth Judkins and James W. Walton. As a young boy, he enjoyed spending time on his grandfather’s ranch and hunting arrowheads at Peck’s lake. After graduating from Robert E. Lee High School, he attended Texas Tech University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government. Jud married Janet Seawright on June 8, 1968, and went on to receive his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Texas Tech School of Law. He returned to Midland where he became a member of the Texas Bar Association and practiced law for several years with Vann Culp. Additionally, he was an entrepreneur, an investor in oil and gas, and real estate.
Jud was preceded in death by his parents, May Beth and James W. Walton.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Walton; two children, Trent and Laura Walton; brother James A. Walton and wife Dawn Walton; nieces Jaimie Walton Howard and husband Stephen, and Julie Walton McIvor and husband Scott; and great nieces, Caitlin Minardi, Locke Ann McIvor and Mae McIvor.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30pm on Saturday, June 2, 2018 in the Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. A private family burial has been planned.
