Joan Frances Krawietz passed away peacefully Thursday, April 21, 2016, at the age of 85, surrounded by family. She was dearly loved and will be missed. She was born on December 24, 1930, in Montgomery, Alabama, to Walter Harris Brame and Ethel Louise Walker Brame. Joan graduated from Incarnate Word High School in San Antonio, Texas, and went on to earn a degree in nursing from the University of the Incarnate Word in 1954. She worked as a Registered Nurse, holding various nursing positions throughout her career. In 1973, she moved to Midland, where she worked as a pediatric nurse until retirement. Her pediatric patients, now adults, fondly knew her as "Mrs. K." Throughout her retirement, Joan remained active in her community, both at St. Ann's Catholic Church and as a volunteer nurse. She is survived by her children, Dennis Krawietz, of Sherman, Texas, and his wife, Jean; Ken Krawietz of Midland; Kathy Widner, of Sunrise Beach, Texas, and her husband, Steve; Carolyn Freeman of Dallas, Texas, and her husband, Russell; Tom Krawietz of Katy, Texas, and his wife, Sherry; Patsy Hoover of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and her husband, Doug; and Paul Krawietz of Dallas, Texas; and her twelve grandchildren, Stephanie, John, Christy, David, Sarah, and Rachel Krawietz; Kalyn and Cory Widner; and Austin, Hayden, Reagan, and Brady Freeman. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, Alfred "Johnny" Trottman, and her son, John Patrick Krawietz. Friends and family knew her as kind, honest, humble, caring, and, according to classmates, "swell." Her children remember her for her caring heart, her selflessness, her willingness to help, and her wonderful cooking. She is remembered among her grandchildren for her kindness. To celebrate her life, a viewing will take place at 6:00 pm on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at Ellis Funeral Home in Midland, TX followed by a rosary at 7:00 pm. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, April 25, at 10:00 am at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Midland, TX, with a reception to follow. Graveside services will take place at 1:00 pm at Resthaven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, Joan's family requests that you donate in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org.
