Jimmy E. Grimes, 77, of Midland, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, February 4, 2012 surrounded by his family. He was born on June 7, 1934 to James Solomon and Lois Richardson Grimes. Jimmy was a long-time resident of Midland, Texas. An avid hunter and marksman, he was also an accomplished gunsmith.
For the past ten years, Jimmy served as the Director of Plant Operations for Odessa Regional Medical Center (ORMC). In 2011, ORMC dedicated the 16 bed neonatal unit expansion in his honor for his professional contributions to the growth and success of ORMC.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, and by his infant brother, Robert Winn Grimes.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria Grimes of Midland; sister, Barbara Keasler of Odessa, Texas; daughter, Joyce McCormick and husband Chris of Elgin, Texas; son, Bryan Grimes and wife, Cheryl of Cedar Hill, Texas; daughter, Alicia Grimes of Haltom City, Texas; daughter, Laura Ashton and husband, Mark of Saginaw, Texas; mother of his children, Lyndell Grimes of Haltom City, Texas; step-daughter, Donna Kirby of Midland; step-son, Duane Knapp and wife, Rainie of Midland; step-daughter, Debbie Knapp of Haymarket, Virginia; step-daughter, Deidra Nelson and husband, Jeff of Midland; 19 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; nephews, Michael Gabrel and Jimmy Gabrel, several cousins and many dear friends and colleagues.
The family will receive visitors from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Ellis Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 7, 2012. A memorial service celebrating Jimmy’s life will be held at Wilshire Park Baptist Church on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 3:00pm. Honorary pallbearers are: Leon and Frilly Measures, Lou Brown, Dan and Kathy Brown, Chris Welch, Alan Denny, Rusty Mormon, James Forrest, and Corky Bosworth.
