Jesus Angel Gomez

He came to the United States when he was 8 years old. He attended Travis Elementary and Cowden Jr High and dropped out of school to support his family. He would typically read the dictionary in the bathroom to continue his own education. In 1983 he received his GED from Midland College. He worked for Phillips 66 in Midland from 1976 to 1983. He graduated from Perkins School of Theology at SMU and became a minister for the Rio Grande Conference of the United Methodist Church from 1983 to 2001. He was a minister at several Texas churches including Templo Cristiano in Midland, El Buen Pastor UMC in Brownfield, El Buen Pastor UMC in Wichita Falls, Emmanuel UMC in Lubbock, El Macias UMC in Moody , El Macias UMC in Brady, Latin American UMC in Waco, Bethel UMC in Abilene, and Scottsbluff UMC in Corpus Christi.

He was supported by his loving wife, Anna Belle Gonzales Gomez, throughout his ministry and throughout his last years of life battling cancer. Jesse and Anna met at Emmanuel Baptist church in Midland, TX. When he first saw Anna, he prayed to God to marry her. They married in 1966 and created a beautiful large family.

He is preceded in death by his parents Francisco and Anna Maria Gomez.

He is survived by his loving wife Anna Belle Gonzales Gomez, son Angelo B. Gomez, son Fabian T. Gomez and his wife Robin and their three children; Chaz Myers, Hannah and Dru Gomez; son Mark Gomez and his wife Carmina and their children; Aly Gomez and Kevin and Sammy Pedraza, daughter Cindy A. Gomez, son Frank H. Gomez, and daughter Yvonne Bejil and her husband Oscar and their two children; Nathan and Mia. His brothers Onesimo and his wife Martha and their children Ruben, Albert, and Raul; Francisco Jr. and his three children Amy, Andrew, and Frank (Paco)III.

Pallbearers will be his sons Angelo, Fabian, Mark and Frank and his grandsons Dru and Nathan. Honorary pallbearers will be Chaz Myers, Kevin and Sammy Pedraza.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at the funeral home between the hours of 6-8pm. A funeral service has been scheduled for Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 1st United Methodist Church at 10am. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
