Jerry Earl Goodwin died peacefully at his home in Midland, TX on September 14, 2013. He was born on July 16, 1936 in Borger, TX to Paula Anna Earl Goodwin and Aaron N. Goodwin. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, June Shirley Goodwin; his parents; his brother Bill A. Goodwin; and his sister Marilyn K. Goodwin Steding. He graduated from Odessa High School in 1956.
After graduating from high school, Jerry honorably served his country as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army’s legendary 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. After being honorably discharged from the army, Jerry returned to Odessa and followed in his father’s footsteps as he embarked upon a 26 year career with Phillips Petroleum Company serving in both the field and management and eventually retiring in 1994. He was a lifelong and dedicated member of First Baptist Church in Odessa, where he always volunteered his time in the service of God and his community.
Jerry was a proud parent, an honorable husband a super sibling, an unbelievable uncle, and a fabulous friend. Most of all, he was a Goodwin.
Jerry is survived by life partner Susan Jowell: his children, J. Bret Goodwin; Julie A. Goodwin Egal; and Susie Haynes and their families; siblings, Joe D. Goodwin and wife Phyllis Goodwin; Ronald R. Goodwin and wife Sharon Goodwin, and Judy Reid and husband Roger Reid; several wonderful nieces and nephews and their immediate and extended families; and countless friends whose lives he touched in many positive ways.
