Janet Marie Smith

Janet was born on May 22, 1951 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Lawrence and Jo Ellen Stenberg. She grew up in Council Bluffs, graduating from Abraham Lincoln High School, then graduated and obtained her teaching degree from the University of Northern Iowa.

She began her teaching career in El Paso, Texas moving a few years later to teach at Midland Christian School and eventually retiring as Early Childhood librarian from Midland ISD. Throughout her career, and through her love of books, Jan touched the lives of literally hundreds of children in the school districts where she worked.

She was very active in the North ‘A’ Church of Christ, coordinating their Monday lunch program, and participating in many other church activities.

Jan is survived by her sisters Mary Jo(Norman) Jensen, Donna (David) Gift, and brother Bob (Nancy) Stenberg; her beloved nephews, nieces, and grandniece, Sarah Jensen, Dan Jensen, Michael Gift, Corina Severn, Selma Severn; step daughter, Suzette Smith; step granddaughter Anastasia Smith; as well as extended family and an abundance of close friends.

A Visitation has been scheduled for Wednesday, January 13, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. at North ‘A’ Church of Christ in Midland, Texas with Greg Fleming officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
