Irene was born on January 4, 1917 in Cameron, Texas to Ida and Frank Junek. Irene grew up in East Texas where she attended school until the fifth grade. She worked as a cotton farmer throughout the years until she married the love of her life, Eddie Hirt, on September 27, 1938. They later moved to Midland in 1961.
After marrying she became a homemaker raising three daughters, sewing, quilting, gardening, handwork and cooking. Irene was a hard worker and took great care of her family, but in her free time, she loved to play dominoes and tell stories about the good old days. The last few years of her life she found her greatest joy in spending time with her great granddaughter Kensie.
Irene’s motto for living such a long and graceful life was to eat a cookie every day and to never go to bed angry.
She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers, three sisters, and grandson Robert Duginski.
She is survived by her children Glenda Cooper and husband Hugh of Midland, Texas, Joanne Epperson and husband George of Hobbs, New Mexico, and Irene King also of Hobbs, New Mexico; six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and one sister, Mildred Hirt, of Alvarado, Texas.
