George Joseph (Joe) Lee, 85, faithful husband and loving father, of Midland, passed away on July 9, 2011. Joe was born in Mitchell County, Texas to Charles Lafayette Lee and Audna Bertha Gill Lee on July 14, 1925.
Joe grew up in a large farming family in Mitchell County. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, during WWII, from 1943 through 1946. While in the Navy, he was stationed in the Philippines at Manila Bay and on Samar Island. He also spent time on the island of Okinawa in Japan and in Shanghai, China. After his discharge, he returned to Mitchell County and began farming. He went to work for the Superior Oil Company in 1951 and retired in 1986. During his career in the oilfield he worked throughout the Permian Basin and South East New Mexico. On November 14, 1959 he married the love of his life, Susan McDonald in Colorado City, Texas.
Joe was a member of the Masonic Lodge 1307 in Loraine, Texas for over 50 years. He was an avid gardener. He also loved fishing and spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters: Christine Pyle, Thelda Geron, and Melba Ackerman; and two brothers: Charles Lee Jr. and Doyce Lee.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Lee of Snyder; son George (Joe) Jr. and wife, Terri of Midland; daughter Susie Scott and husband, Darby of Snyder; sister Rita Reeves of Odessa; sister Joyce Baker of Midland; and four grandsons: Brance Scott of Snyder, Tanner, Dylan, and Zachary Lee of Midland.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Ellis Funeral Home. Services will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Colorado City, Texas.
