George was born on May 21, 1929 in Fort Worth, Texas to John and Laura Vera Noah Dunton. He moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana when he was in elementary school and returned to Ft. Worth during his high school years. After his service to our country during the Korean War he returned to Ft. Worth where he attended Arlington State College (now University of Texas at Arlington). Gulf Oil Company employed him in 1953 as a draftsman where he met Marilyn Stuckey. They were married in 1954 and then transferred to Midland, Texas in 1957. Marilyn and George have four children, Darrell, Randa, Derek and David.
George loved to serve and spent over 60 years of his life doing so up until the last several years when his health did not allow. From the time he accepted Jesus as his Savior at the age of 21, he was a servant leader. He was a quiet, and dedicated servant of the Gospel. He served at First Baptist Church in Midland where he and Marilyn were members for 62 years. During his service there he taught high school juniors, preschool and children. He was a deacon at First Baptist, a volunteer with Junior Achievement, member of the Lions Club, volunteer at the Crisis Center as well as many other areas in the community where he served with dignity, humility and commitment.
Known as PePaw to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved spending time with each one.
George is survived by his 4 children, Darrell and wife Barbara of Midland, TX, Randa Olesky and husband Tony of Pensacola, Florida, Derek and Erika Dunton of Midland, TX and David and wife Marti of Dallas, Texas, as well as 9 grandchildren, Justin Dunton and wife Tricia of Nashville, TN, Jason Dunton and wife Joanna of Bryan, TX, Jenny Leonard and husband Andrew of Midland, TX, Jon Mark Olesky and wife Priscila of Pensacola, FL, Stephen Olesky and wife Lindsy of New York, NY, Chris Olesky of Pensacola, Shelbi and Josh Flowers of Odessa, TX, Bailey and Ricky Hobson of College Station, TX and Maddi Dunton of College Station, TX and 15 great grandchildren.
His parents, wife, Marilyn, and his brothers, Joe and John, preceded him in death.
A celebration service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, October 12, 2018 in the Chapel at First Baptist Church in Midland. The grandchildren will officiate the service led by Justin Dunton, Executive Pastor at Greenhills Church in Nashville, TN, Jon Mark Olesky, Senior Pastor at The Cross in Pensacola, and Jason Dunton, Pastor of Contemporary Worship Arts at FBC Bryan, TX assisted by Senior Pastor Darin Wood of First Baptist Church of Midland.
There will be visitation on Thursday, October 11, 2018 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at Ellis Funeral Home in Midland.
Pallbearers are Justin Dunton, Jason Dunton, Jon Mark Olesky, Stephen Olesky, Chris Olesky, Andrew Leonard, Josh Flowers, Ricky Hobson and Tony Olesky.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the following ladies who blessed us with their care of dad over the last weeks of his life, Pat Brookshire, Mary Pena, as well as all the incredible people at The Courtyards and Hospice of Midland.
