It is with great sadness and much love that we say goodbye to our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Geneta Gail McGovern, who passed away on October 29, 2024, at the age of 81 years old.
Geneta is survived by her husband Frank McGovern, her children Bonnie Wright, Chuck Hensley, and Katrina Hensley, her seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, and her sister Juanda Haddow. She is predeceased by her parents, Pete Hill and Gertie Hill, and her children’s father, Jimmy Hensley.
Geneta was born in Lubbock, Texas, on July 16, 1943, to Pete Hill and Gertie Hill. Her family raised her in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She graduated from Valley High School and soon became a loving wife to Jimmy Hensley and a mother to her three children.
Geneta loved to love people, and one could say she was born to be a homemaker. She was always on the move to make sure she could be the most hospitable person to each life she touched. Whether this be pouring a glass of tea when someone walked in the front door, offering a home-cooked meal to any hungry person, decorating the home with special touches for any special occasion, or sending a card or sweet phone call to let you know that she loved you, Geneta was a woman who wholeheartedly loved to serve others.
Geneta created a life that was nothing less than kidding, full of laughter, joy, and sweet memories. Most importantly, Geneta created a life that the Lord God Almighty entirely drove. Geneta was a faithful woman who led her family to Christ by establishing a firm foundation of what being a follower of Jesus Christ looked like. The love of Jesus shined through Geneta by raising her three children, her participating in the church, and her overall dedication to sharing God’s word with everyone she knew.
Loved and missed by many, Geneta Gail McGovern’s life is honored, knowing that her presence may no longer be on the Earth but is celebrated in the house of the Lord. To honor this beautiful and faithful life, a Memorial Service will be held at Ellis Resthaven Funeral Home and Memorial Park on November 9, 2024, at 2:00 PM.
