Freddie H. Roam, 90, of Midland, passed away on July 20, 2011. He was born on April 15, 1921 in St. Louis, Missouri to Charles W. and Lena Faye Roam. He was the second of nine children. During the Great Depression the family moved to a farm in Pulaski County, Missouri, where he was raised and educated. He volunteered for the United States Marine Corps during World War II and served 44 months, mostly in the Pacific. On February 5, 1945 he married Luella “Ellie” Page. He often told friends that this was his “best day”. After his discharge, he received an appointment to the Missouri State Highway Patrol where he served 35 years.
He was a member of the Northwestern Baptist Church of Midland, Texas, where he was an usher and Deacon for many years. He was a 50 year member of the Mt. Vernon, MO Lodge #99, AF and AM as well as Scottish Rite Consistory Joplin, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers: Guy, William, Charles Jr., Paul, Leo, and David.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ellie; son, John, and wife, Deborah; grandson, Matt, and wife, Allison; and two sisters, Lenna Ferguson, and her husband, Jim, of Waynesville, MO, and Violet Fritts of Eureka, MO; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends on Friday, July 22, 2011 from 6:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the Ellis Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Brad Barnett officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home of Midland, Texas.
