Fidel S. Ramirez

Fidel S. Ramirez was called home on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. He was born April 24, 1933 in Midland, TX to the late Lazaro and Cruz Ramirez. He attended school at Midland High School and was the first Hispanic to graduate from Midland High, as well as in 1953, becoming the first Hispanic to play football at Midland High.

Fidel met the love of his life, Juanita Miranda, at a dance in Odessa, TX. He loved his family and had family get-together’s every Sunday to eat great home cooking or even takeout while watching any sport that he could find on television. He was an avid sports fan and loved all sports. Fidel also played semi pro baseball for the Midland Colts. He was active in the community as a member of the Knights of Columbus, Lions Club, and Director of Park Center with the YMCA and was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Midland. He also loved his poodle, fittingly named, Cowboy. Fidel worked for Texas Electric for 36 years up until retirement.

Fidel is preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Ramirez; an infant daughter, JoAnn Ramirez; a son, Fidel Ramirez Jr.; parents, Lazaro and Cruz Ramirez; and brothers, Ramon, Tory and, Andres Ramirez.

He leaves behind his sons, Russell Ramirez and wife Mary of Haskell and Lawrence Ramirez of Midland; daughter, Katherine (Kathy) Navarrete and husband Miguel of Midland; brother, Emilio Ramirez; sisters, Cruz Winger and, Faye Ramirez; along with four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends for visitation at Ellis Funeral Home, 4616 N Big Spring St, from 4-8 PM on Monday, September 2, 2024 with the Rosary at 7 PM. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 3rd at 10 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1401 Garden Ln, followed by interment at Resthaven Memorial Park. Hector Baca, Reuben Ramirez, Danny Ramirez, James “Chato” Luna, Sammy Ramirez, Ramon Ramirez, Jr. and Larry Dale Ramirez will serve as pallbearers.
