Fausta "Faye" Ramirez, 83, passed away September 24, 2024. She leaves behind the love of her life Jesse Alcocer; her daughter, Sandra Salcido Beeson; her siblings, Cruz Ramirez Winger and Emilio Ramirez; her three grandchildren, Monica Martinez, Margarita Muñoz Medina, and Brian Beeson; and her four great grandchildren, Breanna Salgado, Lana Faye Martinez, Cassandra Ince, and Paul Medina Jr. Faye was preceded in death by parents, Lazaro and Cruz Ramirez, and brothers, Ramon, Fidel, Andres and Tory Ramirez.
Faye was born Sunday, October 13, 1940, in Midland, TX to Lazaro & Cruz Ramirez. Lineage to one of the original families of Midland, as reflected in “The Thorny Trail.” She attended both Midland and Visalia High Schools. She loved traveling and connecting with family members far and wide.
In her 20’s she worked at a Chinese laundry before pursuing interests leading to varied careers. Faye obtained a cosmetology license, became an upholsterer’s apprentice, held several positions at California Department of Motor Vehicles, such as out of state extraditions and reviewing personalized license plates applications for inappropriate innuendo. Faye returned to Midland and worked for the Midland ISD on two separate occasions, each time she returned to her CA DMV position to keep her tenure. She was passionate about rights for CA migrant workers in the 70s and took part in boycotting. Faye returned to Texas, received certification as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), worked in hospitals and nursing homes, returned to CA in the 80s, fulfilled requirements for CA LVN certification, and focused on private home care.
Preceding her declining health, Faye owned and operated Mi Lugar, one of the longest running bars in the Midland Original Town barrio and the only one run by a woman. Her daughter described it as a Tejano version of “Cheers.” Faye and regulars usually greeted patrons by name as they entered. She celebrated her patrons monthly, as she honored their birthdays.
Faye was a very outspoken woman and lived life without bounds. Her great enjoyments were laughter, music, travel, nature, dancing, and fishing. But her greatest love was being with family and friends. She showed her love through her cooking, presence, and conversations.
A celebration of life will be held October 13th in Midland, Texas. Contact family for specifics.
