Donald Wayne Dawkins, 77, of Midland, Texas passed away on January 22, 2024, after a lengthy illness. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 11 AM at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Don was born November 17, 1946, in Midland, Texas to Vern and Lillymay Dawkins. He grew up in Midland and graduated from Midland High School in 1965. Don earned an accounting degree from the University of Houston and went on to become a certified public accountant.
Don married his high school sweetheart, Melba Watson, in August of 1965. Together they had three children, Michael Dawkins of Midland, Traci Dawkins Sparks of Lubbock, and Sherri Dawkins Gilbert of Canyon.
Don loved the Lord, and he loved his family. He cherished his grandchildren and spent numerous hours on the mini golf course teaching them how to win one-handed. He had a sweet tooth to say the least, and he loved to share his post-holiday chocolate booty with the kids. Don was also a classic car enthusiast. He was a member of the West Texas Cruisers Car Club in Midland and attended countless car shows all over the state of Texas.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, Vern and Lillymay Dawkins. Survivors include his sister, Jean Dawkins Page (Doug) of Midland; son, Michael Dawkins of Midland; daughter, Traci Sparks (Terry) of Lubbock; daughter, Sherri Gilbert (Jeff) of Canyon; seven grandchildren, Karissa Fox (Ryan) of Concord, California, Hannah Wallace (Cole) of Midland, Michael Chance Dawkins of Charleston, South Carolina, Micah Dawkins of Midland, Dylan Gilbert (Chloe) of Lubbock, Ryan Sparks of Austin, and Brandon Gilbert (Taylor) of Abilene, and five great grandchildren, Brylee, Lyla, Charlee, Makenzi, and Kohen.
