David J. Cherrington, 94, of Midland passed away on November 11, 2013. He was born on September 10, 1919 in Salt Lake City. Dave married Margaret Sorensen there in July of 1942. She preceded him in death in March of 2000 after 56 years of marriage.
Dave served as an ordinance officer in the US Army during World War II, spending time in Port Morsby, New Guinea, New Britain and led his platoon ashore at Lingayen Gulf, Philippines in January of 1945 in the amphibious landings that would eventually liberate Luzon.
He graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in geology and took a job with Magnolia/Mobil where he worked for over 30 years as a senior production geologist. Dave worked in Wichita Falls, Midland and Houston.
Dave was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in numerous positions and callings. He enjoyed playing golf until his score exceeded his age.
He is survived by his two children, Mike of Midland and Penny Bird of Orem, Utah; his five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Dave is also survived by his two sisters, Marjorie Oblad and Marion Smith of Salt Lake City.
