Dale, as he was known, was born in Cisco, Texas on March 20th, 1924. He was the son of Reverend W.R.“Papa” Ivie, a Baptist Minister, and Edna Viola (Frye) Ivie. His brothers were Cecil, Marvin, Walter, Elton G. “Mutt” Ivie, Paul and Marshall Ivie. He attended Cisco High School, where he also played football and served in the armed forces as an airplane mechanic during World War II. After the war, Dale Ivie attended business classes at Cisco Junior College and Brownwood Business College. He would later use his business skills and knowledge of mechanics to work on automobiles, eventually running a shop in Midland.
He married Eva Jean Nichols in 1946 and fathered three children, Louis Dale, Linda Jean and Judy Kaye. The marriage ended, but contact with the children was maintained over the years through Dale’s youngest daughter, Judy Kaye. In the late 1960s, Dale Ivie met Wynojoe Duckworth, who was the love of his life and he soon remarried. Dale and Wynojoe had three kids, Christi Gayle, Samuel Leon and DeeAnn Carol. He valued education and instilled that in these children - all three are high school graduates, and all have gone to college.
Mr. Ivie became a devoted member of the Masonic Lodge and was active in many other organizations associated with it. Beginning in 1958, he worked his way up in the Masonic organization, and remained actively involved in Masonry for the rest of his life. Later, he was appointed Worshipful Master of the Midland Lodge No. 623 in 1987-1988 and Worshipful Master of Midland Acacia Lodge No. 1414 in 1996-1997. He made a trip to Dallas in 2008 to receive one of the highest honors bestowed on a Mason, which is the “white cap” or 33rd Degree Mason. He served as treasurer of the Midland organization several times and was widely consulted by other Masons. In 1994, he received the Golden Trowel Award and in 2009, he received the 50 Year Service Award. A popular and highly respected teacher (District Instructor) for the group, he was often sought after and recommended to those seeking membership in the local Masonic organization. He was also a member of the Midland VFW and was Commander of that organization during the early 1980s.
He will be remembered as a devoted husband and loving father, who provided for his family, always giving what was needed for his wife and children. Dale Ivie was a serious, intellectual man, who also showed kindness, wisdom and an unforgettable sense of humor that never failed to get a laugh at family gatherings or friendly occasions. A man of deep spirituality and faith, he often saw his Masonic work as a way of giving back to the community, as well as a way of living a meaningful life in the service of others.
