Our Husband, Father, Hero and Friend was born February 13, 1939 to Robert and Hazel Bell in Rising Star, TX. He was raised by his loving grandparents, Gladys and Ernest Baker of Zephyr and later, Bonnie and Flois Hart of Midland. He met the love of his life and best friend, Phyllis Diane Hoover, in 1956. They were married in 1960 and enjoyed 54 years of marriage.
Bob was a graduate of Midland High School, was a member of St. Paul UMC for many years, loved old cars and working outside. He was proud of his rural upbringing in Zephyr, Texas and hard work, common sense and honesty were his hallmark. He started working in the grocery business when he was 11 years old and managed stores for Furr Foods and Albertsons across the West Texas area. For many years, he was a successful entrepreneur, owning and operating a movie rental store and, most recently, a package delivery service.
He is survived by his wife, Diane, of Midland; Son, Faron and his wife, Betsy of Big Spring; Son, Greg of Midland; Daughter, Debbie, and her husband, Doug of Pilot Point. Bob was known as "Poppa" to his six Grandchildren, Loralee, Sharalee, Bobby, Kate, Claire and Zach and had six great grandchildren. He loved his family and devoted himself entirely to them. He considered this his greatest accomplishment.
