On a cold, misty December morning and with her 3 loving children standing by, Mama flew away from the 9th floor of Midland Memorial Hospital. Mama flew fast, Mama flew high, way up to that beautiful mansion in the sky... and as everyone knows, only Angels can fly.
Bobbie Bankston was born on March 7th 1932 in Lubbock Texas and arrived in Heaven on December 13th 2023. Her parents the Reverend Larkin Lee Hall and Mary Lilly Hall moved all over the state of Texas as Larkin preached and was a hospital nurse. Finally after settling in Temple Texas, Bobbie met William Bankston where they eventually married, and took off for the Golden state of California. On the way from Temple to California they stopped in Midland where they found a booming town in the desert of West Texas. Our father worked construction and this was the place to be, lots of construction and lots of opportunities.
She lived 73 years of her life in Midland and worked hard all of her life, sometimes working 2 or 3 different jobs during the day and night. Most notably at the Petroleum Club of Midland where she met longtime friends for life. Miss Bobbie also worked at Hillander Elementary where she could be around children. She loved kids and they loved her. She also worked at a childrens nursery up until the age of 80 so she could be around the little ones.
Bobbie enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, exercising, dominos, working puzzles, reading, music, coloring, and gathering pecans all over the city. She had a bubbling personality and was always happy, smiling, and full of laughter. Most of all she was just a good Mama. Bobbie has always kept the faith throughout her entire life. Whether it was reading scriptures daily, or listening to the old church hymns that we all know so well. She would always give thanks to what she did have, and she lived her life of always doing the right thing. God bless our Mama.
She is survived by 3 wonderful, loving children...daughter Claudia of Dallas, son Jim and wife Barbie of Trophy Club Texas, and her caregiver of many years son Bill of Midland. Sister Ann Newman of Blue Ridge Georgia. Grandchildren Ben and wife Jana of Ft Worth, Belle and husband Isaac also of Ft Worth. And numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
We would like to give thanks to all of the caring nurses on the 9th floor at Midland Memorial Hospital. Also thanks to Lorie and Dr. Kit Bredimus and Hospice of Midland.
Mama said just a few months ago..." I am getting older and I could fly away any day now...when that day gets here, I want you to look up to the sky and wave at me, and I will wave back at you...and I will be waiting for you. "
A graveside inurnment for Bobbie will be held Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 3:00 PM at Ellis Resthaven Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 4616 N Big Spring Street, Midland, Texas 79705. Reverend Steve Brooks with First Methodist Church of Midland officiating.
