Betty Russell Ford, 87, of Midland, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2011. She was born December 17, 1923 in Brownfield Texas to Colonel James Russell Sr. and Amie Cade Russell. After growing up in San Angelo, Texas she met the love of her life William Ray Ford. They were married on November 6, 1948 at the First Presbyterian Church in San Angelo. They moved to Midland where Ray began a career with Fred Turner Jr. Oil Company and Betty began her long career in real estate, initially working with Barnes and Pelletier realtors and ending with Legacy Real Estate. Fishing and hunting with friends and family were one of her favorite pastimes. Betty and “Ford” always spoke fondly of their trips to Lake Amistad and she was always ready to “wet another hook”. Betty enjoyed her family and having no children of her own considered her nephews as her children. She supported many organizations but AA was the one she supported the most. She loved life and loved meeting new people. Throughout her life she faced many obstacles but always remained positive and upbeat. She is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, William R. Ford; brother, Colonel James Russell Jr. and sister, Mary Anne Leary. Betty is survived by Mike and Shelia Leary of Austin, Pat and Judy Leary of Midland, Tim and Rexann Leary of Marathon, Kevin and Denessa Leary of Midland, Steve and Cathy Harrell of Columbia S.C. numerous grand nephews and nieces and brother-in-law Tom Leary of Midland. The family would like to extend special thanks to Beatrice Lambdin and Irma Chabarria for their gracious understanding and excellent care.
