Arlene (as her friends and family knew her) was born January 25, 1944 in Martinsville, Virginia. In 1957 the family moved to Midland, TX where they stayed. On November 11, 1966, Arlene married the love of her life, Burton “Burt” C. Evans in Midland, TX. On November 5, 1970 Arlene gave birth to her & Burt’s only child, Michael Lynn Evans. Michael brought great joy to Arlene’s life, all of her life.
When Arlene’s son, Michael, was growing up, their home was the place where all the kids wanted to be. Arlene loved every minute of having all of Michael’s friends at their house anytime.
In her earlier years, Arlene enjoyed bowling in leagues with her husband Burt, and sisters Lucy and Dottie. In addition to bowling, Arlene was an avid NASCAR fan.
Arlene had 3 beautiful grandchildren, Zach, Zoey & Piper, who quickly became the focus and joy of her life. Zach, Zoey & Piper knew “Memaw” was a very important person in their lives. Zach, Zoey & Piper all had the strength to let Memaw know it was “ok” for her to leave this world for a better place of peace and rest.
During her illness it, became necessary for Arlene to be moved into a nursing home for care. While at the nursing home Arlene quickly became known as the “pudding lady” due to her love of the sweet treat. All who knew her knew her favorite flavor was vanilla banana cream.
Everyone who ever knew Arlene loved her. Arlene had an incredible wit and entertained all who were around her.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, Kinnie Eli and Lucy Ellen Williams, brother Kenneth Williams, sisters Dorothy Marlowe and Lucille Williams.
She is survived by her husband Burt Evans of Midland, her son Michael “Mike” Evans of Midland, grandchildren Zachary Evans, Zoey Evans and Piper Evans all of Midland, brothers Jack Williams of Midland and Vernon & wife Linda Williams of Dayton, NV. She also leaves behind several nieces & nephews. We were all proud she was a part of our family.
The family would like to give special thanks to Senior Care Health & Rehabilitation of Midland, and to Hospice of Midland.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Ellis Funeral Home Chapel.
