9, 2022 after an almost 2 week battle in the hospital. Dave was born March 16, 1949, in Middletown, Ohio, to Lucy and Dave A. Chapman. He was an only child growing up. He was surrounded by loving aunts, uncles and cousins. What he lost out on with the loss of his sister was surely made up by the cousins. Until his last days he was committed to staying in touch and visiting with them as often as possible.
He served in the Navy from 1968 until 1972. The Navy took him to Great Lakes Naval Academy. He was stationed in San Diego and Long Beach, California. He then served overseas in Viet Nam. Through his years of service a cherished story was when he received a bottle of scotch from the Commander of the 7th Fleet for working through the night to get an engine rewired in time for the ship to depart. Looking through his naval records he was regularly considered an asset to the Navy. His travels and service led him to many lifetime friendships.
Like his father and his father’s father, Dave worked a lifetime at Armco Steel. He was committed to his team and the success of his department and co-workers. At the mill he was certainly a jokester. Many stories can be told of his antics over the years. One favorite is when he bricked over the inside of a friends locker so when they opened it up it looked like a brick wall.
In 1964 he met the love of his life Pam. Over the years they have built a beautiful life together filled with sons and grandchildren. Their love for one another took them all of the country, making sure to stop in all 50 states. Traveling by car was one of their favorites. Dave was never one to shy away from a pool party at their home with lots of friends, family and loved ones enjoying a few drinks and time in the sun. He was most at home sitting by the pool surrounded by laughter. Later in life he enjoyed nothing more than being with Pam and his grandchildren.
It can be said that Dave was a fierce friend. If you needed something, he was there. Need a laugh, call Dave. He was not short of friendships. His memory of stories meant he always had a good one to share. His knowledge of music was outrageous. A song could come on and he could tell you who it was, what album it was on and what year it was released. No detail was too small.
On Thursday, the world lost a great man, a loving, wonderful husband, a dedicated father, loving grandfather and friend. While we mourn his passing, we can’t help but think we were all a little better for knowing Dave.
He is survived by his loving wife Pam Chapman, sister-in-law Cindy Osborne and husband Jack; his son Travis Chapman and wife Whitney; his grandchildren Liam, Maggie, Hannah, Jasper, Jacob, Chase, Avery, Markie, Aaron, Maggie Rae; and great grandchildren JJ and Myra; along with many loving nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lucy and Dave Chapman, Helen and Gene Wilson, his sister Charlotte, his brother-in-law Mike Wilson, sister-in-law Barb Wilson, and sons Davey and Stephen.
Friends and loved ones please join us for a Celebration of Life to be held from 4-7PM, Monday, September 19, at Wildwood Golf Club, 601 Aberdeen Drive, Middletown, OH, 45042.
