Charles (Chuck) was born on May 7, 1960, in Middletown, Ohio, where he later graduated from Middletown High School. After High School Charles was married and then enlisted in the United States Navy. He spent 4 years serving his country in Tennessee, Michigan, Bermuda, the Azores, and Spain. He was an aircraft mechanic who worked on the P-3 Orion.
After his service in the military Charles moved his family back to Middletown, Ohio, where he would invest the remainder of his life. Charles worked in the manufacturing and security industry and later worked at Brewer’s Gin Mill.
Charles was liked by so many people and was a committed friend. He was friendly to all, meticulous, proud, a protector, sarcastic, and an all-around easy-going man.
In his later years, Charles spent a lot of time with his children and grandchildren. He loved them dearly and spoke of them often. He also spent many days at the VA Medical Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. He spoke extremely highly of the care he received from the staff at the hospital. A special thanks to all of those on his care team.
Charles is survived by his three children; Chris Hackney of Middletown, Ohio, David (Renee) Hackney of Lebanon, Ohio, and Jennifer Hackney of West Middletown, Ohio. He is also survived by his five grandchildren Isaac, Cohen, Reece, Dawson, and Rose Hackney. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Hackney, father, Boyd Hackney, and sister, Sherry Gibson.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at the OTS Hall located at 913 Lebanon Street, Monroe, Ohio 45050. There will be a visitation time from 1pm to 2pm and the service will begin promptly at 2pm. Kitty Kincaid will be officiating the service.
