Nick was born to Elmer Heilman & Joyce Spencer on April 1, 1964, in Broward General Medical Center in Ft Lauderdale, FL. He played football in high school at Ely High School & graduated in 1982. In his late teenage years, he taught Judo at the family dojo named Heilman’s Judo Club. He married his best friend, Julie Powers on July 4, 1987, in South FL. He worked many years in the Marine Canvas industry & opened his own shop in 1988 named Nick’s Marine Canvas. He had 1 son, Justin in 1995 & said the birth of his son was 1 of the greatest days of his life. He played on a semi pro football team named the South FL Chargers, co-owned the South FL Titans, & volunteered for Justin's football teams.
Survived by his wife, Julie Heilman; his son, Justin Heilman; daughter-in-law, Talisa Chambers; his grandsons, Princeton Heilman & Bentley Waiters; mother, Barbara Heilman; his siblings & their spouses: sister, Paula Cox; brother Michael Heilman; sister, Jennifer Parker; sister, Kathy Honaker; brother, Adam Heilman; mother-in-law, Carol Powers; sister-in-law, Dawn Lipsitz; brother-in-law, PJ Powers; all his nieces & nephews who were very dear to him & he loved like they were his children, as well as his cousins, aunts, uncles, friends (as Nick would sing) & “a Partridge in a pear tree” when there was a long list. Preceded in death by his father & best friend, Elmer Heilman (1997); mother, Joyce Runyan (2020), as well as 2 brothers, Christopher (2012) & Jay “Scott” Heilman (2018).
Nick was an amazing human being & fun to be around. He lit up the room with his presence & was very giving. He always made everyone laugh with his jokes & stories. He loved his family, friends, Americana, all sports especially football, & Rooster’s. His favorite NFL football team was the Miami Dolphins. He loved going to the Dolphin games with his besties! The family plans to have a celebration of life in the future in South FL! We'll communicate details through social media!
