Rick, I hope you, Ralph, Johnny and Bruszer are having a good time. I miss you guys.

You are missed..  I hope you are resting in peace .  I love you, Dad.

My Grandpa was a kind man with a good heart. He would often send me pictures of his dog, Miss Ellie, to show me how she was doing. When he still lived close enough and I was still young enough to need it he would, on occasion, watch me for my parents. Sometimes we would take walks to look for cats. I’d always be so excited to go over to grandpas house because I’d get a big hug and I could pet his cat Mr. Kitty. It’s almost been a year now and I see all of these memories people are leaving about what a good friend and what a great cop he was, but none about what an amazing grandfather he was. He was an amazing and wonderful grandfather and I miss him every day. 

Rick was a brilliant man and  had the most incredible memory of anyone I have ever met. I really enjoyed our conversations over the years.  I will miss you my friend. My sincere condolences to his family.

To the family of Chief Richard Bannon, my condolences and prayers of comfort to all of you. When I came on the department Rick was a Leautenant. He was always professional and dedicated to the protection and service to the community he served. His first concern was always the safety of the men and women on the department. Back in the day I can remember how he would do a brief drive by asking if we were alright then be on his way. It was good to have such great caring supervisors  and it was my honor to have him as one of mine.  I will never forget him.

Newspaper reporters and the police they cover rarely become friends; but somehow I gained Rick's respect and me his. He had only been in Londonderry a short time when I was diagnosed with cancer. He asked my blood type and organized Londonderry and Derry police to donate blood for my surgery. There were 12 pints donated and I started to bleed out at one point snd used 8 pints of the blood for my surgery. He was part of the profile of a police officer in my book. I talked about how at the scene of s murder they were all business with no emotion but in their cars with just a small light glowing, their emotions were shown in the tears they shed out of the public eye. Rick brought a level of professionalism that did not exist before. The union challenged him but he was able to overcome their challenge. I remember his call to me when I interviewed police officials from Coral Gables and he wondered if I planned to interview him. I did and when my story was published people got to see the professional he was. I am glad to have met Rick and call him my friend. We had different points of views on things, but there was respect, understanding and trust. When you can say that about a person, you know you've found an amazing person. Godspeed my friend and when you reach heaven may you be welcomed with open arms by our Lord.

As we used to enjoy recalling, Rick and I got off on the wrong foot, only to become great friends!!!  I enjoyed working for him and we worked great together!  He was the consummate professional.  His motives were always for the greater good.  I have many, many fond memories of our professional AND personal time together, but the two things that I will remember the most are; his love and undying devotion to his family and his sense of humor!!!  RIP my good friend.  I look forward to seeing you again!!!!!!


So sorry to hear of Rick's passing.  He and I served many years on the Coral Gables Police Department together.  He was a good cop.  He was always dedicated to his job, the department and the city.  Rick was so proud of his boys.  He was always talking about their activities and accomplishments.  This is a very difficult time for the family but remembering all the happy times you shared will comfort you.  My sincere condolences to the family.  RIP Rick.

RIP Rick! A cops cop! A class act and true professional. I always felt relief when you showed up on our shared crime scenes when we worked midnights - you with the Gables and me with South Miami.
The Law Enforcement profession has lost a treasure!

My sincere condolences to the Bannon Family. I knew Rick from Coral Gables PD as I worked  for South Miami PD our bordering neighbor to the east.  Saw Him raise through the ranks to Major and had numerous inter actions with Him and Coral Gables PD. He was a consummate Professional and wore his uniform impeccably. Also a Veteran, a Marine. 
Remember him leaving the area to become a Chief of Police in the northeast. Thank you for your Distinguished service as a Marine and Law Enforcement Officer.

A Second father to our children, a valued friend. Always remembered.

I have to say how sorry I am that my great friend and mentor has passed. The only consolation is that he is no longer in pain and is reuniting with all of his loved ones. When I came on the department Richard and I seemed to hit it off and he was there for me during many trials and tribulations and his sound reasoning and personal skills helped me grow. Ultimately, we became next door neighbors. We shared the most horrific event in my life, and I would suppose his also, in the death of my wife. Richard was a rock for me and helped guide me away from places where I was heading and I owe him so much that I can’t put it all into words. God Bless you my friend and I’ll see you again one day in heaven, along with Pam and other loved ones. Rest in Peace now. My condolences to his family and loved ones as God has taken a great man from us.

Jack and I are so sorry to hear of Rick's passing. He was a good friend to both of us and we have so many fond memories of the days  back in Coral Gables ,  He had Jack's back a few times and he also performed our wedding service.  We have continued to stay in touch with each other and this will leave a big hole in our lives but we know he will be at peace now and smiling down at us.

I am saddened to hear that Chief Bannon has passed - he was a good man. I know that his efforts in making the Londonderry Police Department a fully professional department certainly helped me in my career as a young police officer. I grieve your loss, honor his memory, and am proud to have served under him.
