He Joined the US Navy at age 17 and served his country 28 years, retired as Senior Chief in the United States Navy. Jim trusted Jesus as his Savior in 1975 and loved his church family. He was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church for many years. He was known as Papa, Grandpa, Sugar Bear, Dad and Pop. He loved his country, family get-togethers, cooking, gardening, animals, fishing, playing uno and dominoes, as well as watching Hallmark movies and Christmas movies.
James was preceded in death by his father, John Simmer, his brother, Johnny Simmer, his youngest brother, Richard Simmer, daughter, Jennifer Healy and grandson, Cory Fox.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years (March 15, 1976), JoAnn Lynn Willis Simmer, 4 children: Timothy (Melissa), Michele (Daryl), Linda (Bruce) and Sandy; 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandkids; and a host of extended family and friends.
The family kindly requests that floral donations or contributions be made to Calvary Baptist Church of Middleburg for church planting in the memory of Jim Simmer.
Funeral arrangements will be held 2 PM, Friday April 26, 2024 at Calvary Baptist Church of Middleburg, 1532 Long Bay Road, Middleburg, FL with Pastor Ken Pledger officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to service from 1-2 PM at the church.
