He worked with the Florida Power and Light Company, in Delray Beach. He was President of JSE Corporation and a finance consultant to area businesses. He also served in the United States Air Force 1950-1954, and the Federal Aviation Administration 1968-1972. He was project manager of JR Shoup & Associates, Jacksonville, Florida. Also Vice president Research and development JP Computing Company, Jacksonville Beach. Systems instructor microcomputer science Duval County Community Schools, Jacksonville. Consultant on electronic data processing accounting applications, analysis, and electronic data processing system engineering. He was a Legislation delegate for the National Association of Postal Supervisors, 1999-2004. He worked as supervisor of transportation with the United States Postal Service in Jacksonville, 1975-2004, and retired in 2004. He was a proud member of MENSA for 38 years.
Achievements include designing Aiken computers, disk patch for tiny Pascal, system 8000 computers, IMAS and IMASNET accounting system for microcomputers, Ministry of Information and Communication series computers. He authored manuals on computer applications in industrial and transportation management, 1975-1984.
He loved the Lord and he enjoyed being a Sunday school teacher, deacon, treasurer, & elder at local Presbyterian churches. He was a member of Ortega Presbyterian Church for almost 30 years.
He was a loving, compassionate and gentle man and leaves a legacy of love and faith for the generations that will follow him.
Mr. Shoup is survived by his loving wife of 29 years; Michelle Gagner Shoup, daughters; Emily Shoup, Rhonda Shoup (Bill) Gauthreaux and Amy Sylvester. Sons; Ricky Shoup, Sean Conner, and Rodney (Dorothy) Crews and 5 grandchildren; Marisa Fedd, Nicholas Gauthreaux, Taylor Gauthreaux, Amelia Gauthreaux and Darius Sylvester.
