Hazel Alene Powell, of Jacksonville, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on December 10, 2021 after living a full life of 94 years. She was born on April 14, 1927, in Ashburn, Virginia to Alvin Carlos Pierson and Ida May Maddox.
Hazel loved life and everything it brought. She had a beautiful laugh and a great sense of humor to match. She always had advice whether you wanted it or not or a quick little snippet about something she didn’t agree with. She enjoyed many hobbies that kept her busy through the years. One of her favorite hobbies was playing with her church friends in a band of teapots called Rhythm and Sound. Hazel definitely had that gardener’s touch too. Her gardens were always full of delicious fruits and vegetables and she always had beautiful plants and flowers everywhere. One of her favorite places to go, and her last field trip, was the beach. She could just sit there and watch and listen to the waves forever. She was such a lovely and spunky lady and is missed so much already.
Hazel is preceded in death by her Parents, her sisters Frances Hawes, Beatrice Wine and Lucille McGogney and brother Alvin Carlos Pierson Jr.; her son Glen M. Taylor; her granddaughter Chelsea Powell; and her husband of 38 years, Edward J. Powell.
Hazel is survived by her sister Doris Johnson; daughters Joie A. James (Allen), Alesia Taylor, Gladys Strickland, Valerie Powell Bruce and sons Gary L. Taylor (Linda) and Victor E. Powell (Tina); 13 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren.
