I served with Commander Blocker aboard the USS America in the mid 1980's. He was a great Officer, helped me with my Naval Career path. So sorry for your loss.

I always looked WAY up to Uncle Gerald. After the Libyan Crisis War with Kadafi (one that he was very worried about when tensions were high) he came back to the states and came to Greenville SC.  After staying a couple of days at my dad's house he and I left for home (Bastrop La.). I was 18 and very unsure of my future.  We took our time and did the trip in two days. I'll never forget the sincerity in the advise given by him and the amount of interest I had in the stories of his life in the military, war and other generalities. He was and still is one of the best men I've ever known. 

My father was my first love.  I remember him letting me find the squirrels in the back of his best. Skinning deer. Letting me steer his red Chevy luv.  I love his accomplishments. I will miss him always.

Sandy and I send our condolences to the family. It's awful that for a really significant period of time Gerry and I stayed in touch and then began taking things for granted. We served and had a great time at AIMD Jax 1977-1980. Rest in peace Commander.

I actually talked about your dad the other night, less than a week ago. One of my kids asked me to shuffle their cards for them (we were all playing cards). I said, "here's how you do it. And now, I don't want to do it for you again." And then I told the story about how your dad put a worm on my hook in Mississippi one day ... I think I was about 5 or 6. And then after I needed another worm, I asked him to do it again. He was quite adamant about this: "Absolutely NOT. I taught you how to do it. Now you do it. I will NOT bait your hook again." 
This may have been an insignificant event for your dad, but I never forgot it. And I've repeated it -- mostly without attribution -- my whole life.
Thanks Uncle Gerald, rest in peace.
(And by the way, the station wagon was white.)

We were blessed with such a great Uncle!  I was always so proud of his accomplishments in the Navy - as a young girl I remember when he made chief petty officer and on up in his Navy career - such an officer and a gentleman. He always took time to ask with genuine interest about my children Ginger and Jamie - he was such a patriot to have  served our country and family with great sacrifice in time of war and to help keep and maintain peace - thank you Uncle Gerald is not near enough you are loved and will be greatly missed - Blessings and our thoughts and prayers to Walter, Kerry and family - Treasa, Buddy, Ginger and Jamie
