Carlos Alberto Ramirez was born in Queens, NY to Dominican immigrants Carlos Cesar and Persida. After his parents divorced, he grew up and lived in Yonkers, NY with his mother, stepfather Francisco Rodriguez, his sister Diana and two brothers Martin and Franklyn. Carlos attended Charles E. Gorton High School and graduated in 1989. During his high school years, he met and married the love of his life Rosana. They later had two children, Sasha and Christian. As a young man, Carlos worked as a gas station attendant until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1989. During his Naval career Carlos completed numerous tours and was stationed in Jacksonville, FL., Connecticut, and Japan. Carlos served honorably and courageously during Operation Enduring Freedom, completing a tour in Afghanistan. Once returning to the United States he was stationed at Mayport Naval Base in Jacksonville, FL until he retired in 2009 after 20 years of service as an MA1.
Carlos was an amazing man, with a huge heart, and a kind and gentle soul. Carlos was known to use humor to lighten any situation. No matter what he had going on in his life, he was always there with a smile, a joke, a shoulder to cry on, or whatever you needed. We will all miss his crazy jokes and comments. Carlos literally and figuratively carried his heart on his sleeve, willing to help anyone who crossed his path. Not only was he an outstanding and honorable soldier but son, husband, father, brother, uncle, godfather, nephew and friend.
After his retirement, Carlos joined the VyStar Credit Union team as a Corporate Security and Safety Supervisor. While there he obtained his Associates degree from Fortis College in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement. Soon after that he moved on to complete his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Phoenix in Business Management, Marketing and Related Support Services. In 2019 Carlos made the decision to become an entrepreneur and founded Vets-Assisting-Vets LLC. Carlos also juggled his real estate career, travel agent career and insurance agent career. Carlos’ favorite pastime was spending time with his family. He was a part of many other projects and touched so many lives.
Right before his passing, Carlos found out he fathered a son from a young teenage relationship by the name of Justin. Although they were unable to physically meet, they were able to form a relationship and communicate regularly.
He is preceded in heaven by his father Carlos Cesar, his grandparents, and his mother-in-law Caridad.
He is survived by his wife Rosana; children Justin, Sasha and Christian; parents Francisco and Persida; sister Diana (Neil); brothers Martin and Franklyn (Martha); father-in-law Cesar; sisters-in-law Frances (Richie), Liana, Yvonne; and brother-in-law Cesar Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles a huge extended family and numerous friends that will miss him dearly.
A visitation for Carlos will be held Thursday, September 9, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hardage - Giddens Holly Hill Funeral Home, 3601 Old Jennings Road, Middleburg, FL 32068. A Funeral Mass will occur Friday, September 10, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 9401 Staples Mills Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32244.
