He was born July 17, 1962 in Rahway, New Jersey and was raised in Greensboro, North Carolina. Bill attended college at Brevard College and the University of North Carolina Asheville in the Appalachian Mountains. His love of the mountains and nature eventually led him to the Adirondack Mountains. Bill was educated in meteorology which became a passion of his. He also held a corporate position for several years at American Express in the fraud department. After moving to the Adirondacks, he spent time working in his brother’s gallery creating custom made Adirondack furnishings. He later took a position with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation where he was in charge of the Lincoln Pond Campground for the past ten years. He loved his campground and his campers. To him, it was not just a job, it was a love. Bill was a wonderful photographer and also enjoyed anything outdoors including fly fishing, hiking, bicycling, hunting, and snow shoeing.
Bill is survived by his wife of eight years, Lea Welsh; siblings, Tom Welsh, Carolyn (Tom) Noonan and their children, Colleen and Robert Noonan, David (Sandy) Welsh and their children, Ryan and Jamie Betz; mother-in-law, Janet Cecil; brother-in-law, Allen Stevenson (Karen McElroy) and his children, Gabriella and Simon Stevenson and their mother, Treena Katana; also special to him was his one hundred and two year old grandmother-in-law, Martha Cox.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Stella Welsh; cousin and brother in spirit, Greg Kupchak; and his father-in-law, Charles Cecil.
In lieu of flowers, a Go Fund Me account has been established. The Bill Welsh Memorial Fund, organized by Lea Stevenson Welsh, will facilitate the placement of a permanent memorial marker at Bill’s beloved Lincoln Pond Campground; as well as help children and his family.
