FIELDS, Hubert A. of Sycamore Glen Retirement Community, Miamisburg, OH passed away in the early morning of Sunday, July 27, 2014; he was 107 years old. Hubert was born December 4, 1906 in Jackson Township, Darke County, OH. He was the fourth of seven children born to the late Russell Dale and Laura (Spahr) Fields. His father was killed by a tornado that passed through Darke County in 1930, when Hubert was only 13. The family was forced to relocate to Indiana where Hubert graduated Jackson High School class of 1924. In addition to his parents, Hubert was preceded by his six siblings and his wife of 62 years, Flora Elizabeth (Hughes) Fields in 1992. He is survived by his loving family, a daughter, Eleanor J. Bierley and her husband, Donald A. Bierley of Miamisburg; grandchildren, Donald Kent (Debra) Bierley of Beavercreek and Kirk F. (Cheryl) Bierley of Miamisburg and four great grandchildren, Stephanie, William, Benjamin and Jonathan Bierley, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Hubert learned to be independent after the death of his father adopting the philosophy “When life puts something in front of you; you either have to deal with it or not deal with it.” Hubert was an “I’ll do it myself” type of person. When he returned to the Dayton area after high school he worked for Chrysler and Frigidaire. In the 1930’s he returned to his farming roots owning working property off SR 741 and later started his own John Deere Implement Dealership from 1950 until 1963. Hubert was an active, long-time member of the Miamisburg Rotary Club and a 75th Anniversary Paul Harris Fellow. He also served as Rotary president, 1961-1962 during which he and Dr. Glen Brandon founded the Rotary Pancake Day and learned to live by the motto “Service Above Self”. Hubert also served his church family at Trinity United Church of Christ through his faith and generosity. Family will greet friends and relatives from 10:00-11:00 AM Thursday, July 31, 2014 at Gebhart-Schmidt-Parramore Funeral Home, Miamisburg. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM also at the funeral home and officiated by Dr. Joel Getts. Burial will take place at Hillgrove Cemetery, Miamisburg. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the caregivers at Crossroads Hospice and the Sycamore Glenn Retirement Community for the exceptional care and support. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International or Trinity United Church of Christ in memory of Hubert.
