BARTON, Glenn Douglas “Doug”, age 87 of Germantown, OH passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at VA Medical Center, Dayton. He was born October 30, 1929 in Dayton, OH to the late James Sr. and Lillian (Shealy) Barton. In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Mary Jean (Ruebush) Barton in 2014; his brother, James Barton Jr. and sister, Darlene Kline. He is survived by his sons, Dan and Chris Barton of Dayton and Dana and Barbie Barton of Miamisburg; grandsons, Stuart and Sarah Barton of Dayton and Charlie Swafford of Miamisburg; a great grandson, Oliver; his sister, Myra Fite of Springboro and a dear friend and caregiver, Rogetta “Shawn” Rodgers. Doug was 1948 graduate of Miamisburg High School and spent a short time studying at University of Dayton. He had also honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War before beginning a career in excavating. Doug absolutely loved construction and building and dedicated the majority of his life to the construction industry including Rash Construction at the inception of his career and finally with BBS Construction. Doug retired after 65 years in 1994. He enjoyed many activities outside of work, including vegetable gardening, woodworking, bird watching and Old Milwaukee’s Best. As a youngster Doug participated in high school football; he held memberships with the American Legion and Moose Lodge of Miamisburg and he and Mary enjoyed a farm in Hillsboro for many years. A memorial service will begin at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Gebhart-Schmidt-Parramore Funeral Home, Miamisburg. Ellerton Cemetery will serve as Doug’s final resting place and memorial contributions may be made the American Legion Post 165 at 25 N. Main St., Miamisburg, OH 45342.
